Ignacio Martínez
My name is Ignacio Martinez and I'm the author of this blog. Spanish-born, I finished a while ago my education in dance and dance pedagogies.
I worked as a dancer at the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Germany, De Rotterdamse Dansgroep and NL/NRW Dance Link in the Netherlands, and De Humani Corporis Fabrica in Spain, as well as a freelancer.
Along those years, I danced and contributed to the creation of new works from choreographers such as Jacopo Godani, Christian Spuck, Kyle Bukhari, Martin Butler, Constanza Macras, Rui Horta, Stefan Ernst, Marvin A. Smith, Rinus Sprong, Sara Lourenço, Marguerite Donlon, among others.
While working as a dancer at Ballett des Saarländisches Staatstheater, I started choreographing. To continue my development as a choreographer, I later established myself as a freelancer. My creations were presented in various cities in Germany, such as Stuttgart, Bremen, Dresden or Gera, as well as in France, Denmark, Luxembourg and Spain.
During my years as a dancer and choreographer, I often gave dance training as well, what proved to be a real passion for me. Being in charge of dance training means putting into practice with others the strategies I had used for years as a dancer myself. These strategies led me then to find my own physical well-being while training, rehearsing and performing.
My training is a ballet training, but it is geared toward contemporary dancers. My focus is not on the aesthetics classical technique produces, but on the body awareness it generates. Dynamic is already present on the first exercise at the bar, getting boosted and magnified throughout the training.
